ADF Slouch Hat

Dear friends and members,

The photo gallery for Remembrance Day 2017 has been uploaded for your viewing pleasure. This year the ceremony was held at the MI RSL hall instead of the Alma Bay cenotaph. The intention was to bring focus back to the Memorial hall itself providing for a very dignified and well received ceremony. Due to the success the intention is to conduct Remembrance Day Ceremonies at the hall from now on. ANZAC Day ceremonies will still be conducted at Alma bay.

As always, please contact the RSL Office for copies of these images; larger high definition copies are available.

The Magnetic Island RSL wishes to that all of those who were involved and lent a hand in making it all happen so seamlessly. Thank you, also, to all those who attended this solemn commemoration with us.

Photographer: Leading Aircraftman Rodney Welch

Do you know of any past or current Kedron State High School students or staff (cleaners, groundsmen, office workers, teachers, principals etc), who have served as part of the Australian Defence Force during military campaigns? If so, the Kedron RSL Liaison Prefects need your help.

This year, the Kedron High RSL Liaison Prefects are working towards acquiring an Honour Board for Kedron State High School.

However, they need the community’s help to track down the names of Australian Defence Force servicemen and women from Kedron High who have served in military campaigns to ensure their names are included on the Honour Board.

If you know of any Kedron High staff or ex-students who should be added to the Honour Board, please contact Kedron State High School.

All That We Carry – a play

Posted by: | Comments (0)

A play in Townsville for the beginning of Veterans’ Health Week that deals with the effects of PTSD on veterans and their families. Written by former Island resident, Fairlie Sandilands, especially for the Townsville audience. Premiere Friday 9 Oct.
The play is for 15+ as the themes are very confronting and there is strong language.

There may be triggers in the play for veterans.

Old Courthouse Theatre, Cnr Sturt and Stokes St, Townsville,
Friday 9th and Saturday 10th October, 7 pm
Tickets $12 available from

All That We Carry

All That We Carry

From the Author:

The play follows the journey of a veteran in his early 30s who realises that something is not right for him – he can’t communicate with his family anymore and is short tempered. He is also having work problems. His wife and daughter are bearing the brunt of his changed attitudes and behaviour. ‘All That We Carry’ looks at the journey back from war, where some bring the war back with them and it never leaves, and others find a way to live with the past, in the context of family and community.
